Tepoztlan, Morelos is located just 50 miles South of Mexico City via a modern toll road. The area, located at 5500 feet above sea level, has a year round moderate climate. Temperatures rarely exceed 85 F in the hottest of the dry season and always come back down at night but rarely below 55 F. This is why there is no need for heating or air conditioning at Casa Tepoztyco. Tepoztlan is known for its 17th century convent, Mardi Gras - Carnival, moutain top pyrimid to the god of "pulque," weekend artisan's street market and weekend homes of the rich and famous. Cuernavaca, "The city of eternal Spring" is just 20 minutes away.
Casa Tepoztyco was designed by British architect Pamela Holmes. Construction was completed in late 2001 by the present owners from Houston Texas to exacting standards in the Mexican colonial-style with many arches and columns. Located just four miles from the center of Tepoztlan, the site was selected for it's spectacular views of the surrounding Tepozteco and Amatlan Mountains. This mystical area is known as the birthplace of Quetzalcoatl, the Aztec serpent god. The city lights in the valleys, far below the house, are those of Cuautla and Cocoyoc. The design of the three level house is for outdoor and terrace living to take advantage of the excellent year round climate.
There are TWO elegantly decorated master suites, each with a king-size bed, woodburning fireplace, and private terrace. There is an incredible view of the sunrise from your bed! There are two additional bedrooms; one queen-size and one with an Indian-style antique double bed and a single bed built into the wall (painted bright red and a favorite with most guests). All bedrooms have private baths and ceiling fans.
Relax in the solar heated "infinity edge" pool with an unresticted awesome view. A swim-up bar is attached to the outdoor thatched "palapa" and has a wet bar, ice maker-refrigerator and outdoor dining area. The media room is equipped with DirecTV, VCR, DVD, CD and all-house Stereo with individual controls for each zone. Books puzzles and games are provided. The indoor and outdoor living areas as well as terraces and patios are excellent locations for viewing the sunsets and the night skies.
The living room, with its woodburning fire place, has 3 sets of French doors that lead to an open terrace and balcony. There is also a large covered terrace that is a favorite gathering area. The round dining table seats up to ten. There are beautiful views from just about any spot in the house. The kitchen is fully-equipped with everything you need to prepare anything from a light snack to a gourmet meal.
The three-car garage is attached to a seperate servant's quarters for the live-in caretakers. Rates include, daily housekeeping, all bathroom and poolside towels and bed linens. The maid also does a nightly turndown service and kitchen clean-up for you after meals. The gardener/caretaker takes care of the pool and outdoor patios.
The two acre site is surrounded by a ten foot volcanic rock wall. There is a Closed Circuit TV security system. A newly planted orchard includes avocado, orange, grapefruit, lemon, and lime trees. There is also a cactus garden that has a unique collection of local cacti.
