Matinicus is a beautiful island plantation located in outer-Penobscot bay about twenty miles southeast of Rockland, Maine. "Matinicus" is an Indian name meaning "grassy island " and its harbor is one of the few in Maine that's home to almost exclusively working vessels. The Boston Globe travel writers call Matinicus "rugged, but beautiful, with sweeping ocean views and sandy beaches ... one of the last places in Maine where the old Down East lifestyle survives in anything like it's pure form ... unspoiled and unpretentious."
There is also something very mystical and spiritually healing about Matinicus Island . . . perhaps it has to do with the limitless expanse of water, the quiet serenity, and the beautiful surroundings. Families find that they have more oportunities to bond due to the lack of "distractions", thus renewing close personal relationships. There is a lot more time for reflection and inner peace on Matinicus . . . far away from the hustle & bustle of daily hectic living in an increasingly complicated world. Maine-ly, you can expect plenty of peace & quiet.
