"Grandma's House", a lovely Queen Anne Victorian home, was built in the 1880s. It has been in
our family for almost 75 years. We visited our grandparents here, and our children visited their
grandparents here. We want you to be able to enjoy our beautiful Southwest by staying in our
home with your families and taking in all there is to do in the Durango area. Downstairs we have
a parlor, with a queen-size hidabed, a formal dining room, a library (complete with piano, stereo,
games, records, tapes, cds, fireplace, hundreds of books and a built in couch that is larger than
a twin bed), the kitchen, laundry facilities and bathroom. Upstairs are four comfy bedrooms and
a huge victorian bathroom, complete with the original clawfoot tub. In the back yard, we have a
flagstone patio, along with both gas and charcoal grills and picnic tables. We are across the
street from a nice park with playground equipment (Mom used to keep her donkey, Essex, over
there until he wandered thru the neighborhood nibbling flowers). We are on a large corner lot,
also across the street from a Catholic church, and within a block of the local hospital. We are
within a short walk to the path that travels along the Animas River that runs thru our town, which
is used for walking and biking. You can walk downtown, or walk the one block to Main Avenue
and take the Trolley. We have several bicycles for your use, as well as inner tubes for your
riverfloating or tubing down a hill of snow. Durango is home of the famous Durango-Silverton
Narrow Gauge train. It takes you to the town of Silverton along tracks from which you can see
more beautiful scenery than you can from a car. We are 45 minutes away from Mesa Verde
National Park and the cliff dwellings. North of Durango, about 30 minutes away, is Purgatory
Ski Area. It has been changed to Durango Mountain Resort, but we natives continue to call it
Purgatory. We have great fishing, and we're home to Gold Medal waters for fly fishing. We
mountain biking, rafting, four-wheeling, and just plain beautiful country to enjoy.
